Salma Hayek was a big hit in Hollywood when she landed an appearance in Robert Rodriguez's Desperado. Then, her Oscar nominated role in Frida made her rise to the top of Hollywood. Hayek is also active in television, most notably as the executive producer for Ugly Betty. Salma Hayek Jimenez is the daughter of Spanish parents as well as a Lebanese father. She was born on September 2nd of 1966, in Coatzacoalcos Veracruz Mexico. Born into a privileged Catholic home, Hayek attended a convent school in Louisiana when she was twelve and stayed together with an aunt Houston, Texas, during her teenage years. The school she attended was the Mexico City university after a short time in order to pursue acting. Her first job was as a Mexican telenovela actress. The first film of the year was released in 1990, Hayek made the move to California and moved to Los Angeles to work on her English. Following a few small roles, she landed a role opposite Antonio Banderas in 1995's Desperado.
